Overwatch League Live Postseason Events Cancelled Due To COVID-19 Delta Variant Issues

Turns out COVID-19 and its delta variant still does not care about your live events. As such, the Overwatch League announced today that its live postseason events will be cancelled.

Instead, the events will be replaced by a Hawaii-based postseason model, just like the ones used during the 2021 season. Blizzard will be using Hawaii and its University of Hawai’i, Manao facilities for Western teams to play on a fair ping with their East region counterparts. The league has used this for previous tournament cycles this year.

Here’s the official statement:

“We are no longer confident that all of [the teams] would be able to travel to the United States with their full rosters.”

Overwatch League’s regional play-ins begin on 4th September, with the global playoff bracket kicking off on 16th September. These dates may change in the future.
