VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen – Can OpTic Repeat Stage 1 Masters Run?

Off to a slow start, OpTic Gaming manages to prevail as they qualify for the bracket stage and send KRÜ Esports home.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT STAGE 2 MASTERS – COPENHAGEN SCHEDULE

After failing to claim the top seed in North America Stage 2 Challengers, OpTic Gaming has managed to make a group stage run yet again in the exact same manner as Stage 1 Masters Reykjavík.

Just to recap, in the last Masters, OpTic also failed to claim the top seed from North America, leaving them in the group stage at Reykjavík. OpTic lost their initial group stage match versus XERXIA but went on to secure the second seed in the group.

From there, the GreenWall would face off against the top seed from North America, The Guard, beating them 2–1 and repeating the scoreline in the upper bracket semi-finals against the Korean side, DRX.

OpTic would later be sent into the lower bracket final by LOUD to go head-to-head against ZETA DIVISION where they would sweep the Japanese representatives 3–0, claiming their spot in the Grand Final. And the rest is history as we know that OpTic would go on to win the event by taking revenge on LOUD and sweeping them 3–0.

And it looks like OpTic is on the road to do it yet again. Earlier today OpTic secured the second seed in Group A just behind Guild Esports who they lost to in their first match of the tournament. To do this, they had to replay the last Masters’ Grand Final against LOUD but this time fighting to stay in the competition. Ultimately, OpTic came out on top in a close 2–1.

This meant that the North American side would have to face KRÜ Esports — who haven’t had the best record against the GreenWall which remained true as we saw earlier today when OpTic swept the Latin American team in a comfortable 2–0, reminiscent of their last meeting in Masters Reykjavík — securing themselves qualification to the bracket stage.

Here in the upper bracket quarter-finals, just like the last Masters, OpTic will have to face the top seed from North America. The only difference this time is the team itself, as they are to be pitted against XSET instead of The Guard like in Iceland.

So far this tournament, everything has gone exactly how it did last for them. Missing out on the top seed prior to the competition, losing their first match in the group stage to Guild Esports, securing the second seed in the group, facing off against the top seed from North America, XSET in their first match of the bracket stage. And it is very possible that if OpTic wins this match, they will go on to face DRX just like last time.

It really does look like the stars could be aligning. For more VCT 2022 action, head over to our full schedule and livestream feature page.
