Original story
It’s not a good day for Ubisoft as yet another of its live service games is getting the shaft.
Roller Champions’ development will be wound down after its third season according to sources close to journalist Jeff Grubb on the Xbox Era podcast. While the game is financially more successful than battle royale game Hyper Scape, it still isn’t high enough to justify continued support. That’s just business, I suppose.
Roller Champion is a 3v3 roller skating game where teams compete to score goals in a skating rink. Right now it’s in its first season called Disco Fever (trailer below). Each season lasts 2 months, so the game allegedly has 6 more months yet to change minds before it gets canned.
Other Ubisoft games that are cancelled include a Splinter Cell VR title and Ghost Recon Frontline, alongside two previously unannounced titles. Also, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been delayed to a 2023/2024 release period, while the next Assassin’s Creed game is scheduled for 2023. At least Ubisoft can rely on its upcoming triple-A game, Skull & Bones, to get that windfall the company needs. After all, it has enough clout and talent to elevate it above the game that’s close to its release date, God of War: Ragnarok.
