CW has announced that The Flash Season 9 will be the final season of the series, which originally began in 2014. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will debut in 2023 and consist of just 13 episodes.

Besides Grant Gustin, Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker are set to return. The Flash Season 9 will premiere just weeks ahead of the planned 23 June 2022 release of Warner Bros.’ The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller. What’s funny is that The Flash film was originally announced just a week after the premiere of The Flash series in October 2014.

The Flash started as a spinoff from Arrow and helped to establish the Arrowverse. The Flash has been the most successful of the Arrowverse series and the longest running too, beating Arrow’s eight-season run. The remaining DC properties besides The Flash on The CW include Superman & Lois Season 3, Stargirl Season 3, and Gotham Knights Season 1.

In a statement, The Flash executive producer/showrunner Eric Wallace said:

So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers, and crew over the years who helped make The Flash such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.“

It was a great eight/nine years but all good things must come to an end eventually.
