Squid Game Star Lands Lead Role In Star Wars The Acolyte Series

Squid Game star Lee Jung-Jae is officially joining the Star Wars universe as the male lead in the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte. According to Deadline, Lee will star alongside Amandla Stenberg (she will be playing the titular Acolyte, an alleged Sith in training). However, the specifics of Lee’s role are currently unknown.

Lee is best known for starring in Netflix’s Squid Game series, which has become extremely popular worldwide. Star Wars The Acolyte will be helmed by series director, writer, exec producer and showrunner Leslye Headland, who is best known for co-creating Netflix’s Russian Doll.

All we know about The Acolyte so far is that it will be a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. The project was originally revealed in December 2020. In Star Wars canon, Acolytes are usually the Jedi’s Padawan equivalent for Siths.

Maybe we’ll learn more this weekend during Disney’s D23 event.
