Shinji Mikami Is Leaving Tango Gameworks After 12 Years

Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil, Evil Within, and Ghostwire: Tokyo fame is leaving the company he founded 12 years ago: Tango Gameworks.

According to a TrueAchievements report, the news was made via an email from Bethesda senior vice president of development Todd Vaughn. Below are the contents of the email:

“I am writing today to let you know that studio head Shinji Mikami has decided to leave Tango Gameworks in the coming months. Mikami-san has been a creative leader and supportive mentor to young developers at Tango for 12 years through his work on the Evil Within franchise, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and of course, Hi-Fi Rush.

We wish Mikami-san well in the future and are excited by what lies ahead for the talented developers at Tango.”

The email did not state why Shinji Mikami is leaving the company. He has a few months left before he truly departs from the place he started.

Shinji Mikami started his career at Capcom in the 90s, starting with his first few game design works being Goof Troop and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? He got his claim to fame with the first Resident Evil game for PlayStation, as well as Resident Evil 4. He also worked with PlatinumGames on the criminally underrated shooter Vanquish before founding Tango Gameworks in 2010.
