One Of This Generation’s Best Fighting Games Is Getting A New Server Lease On Life

Even after 7 years, the Killer Instinct reboot isn’t going anywhere.

While it’s common to see a lot of online games getting shut down after more than 5 years, it’s nice to report on something that’s on the opposite tangent. Killer Instinct is responding to its current legacy server infrastructure issues by migrating to brand new ones (via Time Extension). The game received a quality-of-life update that begins the migration to the new server backend.

“Over the last five years, it has become more challenging to deal with issues that crop up due to KI’s reliance on legacy services. We have started migrating KI’s legacy services to PlayFab services, a process which will happen over the next several months.

This is a quality-of-life (QOL) update and does not have any new content or tuning changes: it ensures the game you know and love continues to provide the best possible player experience.

Killer Instinct (2013) is out now for Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC. If you need another fighting game fix that isn’t Street Fighter or Tekken, go give this one a shot. Some of the aforementioned fighting games have cribbed from the 2013 game’s mechanics like its Instinct Mode.
