Diablo 4 Already Has 2 Expansions In The Works

Diablo IV has now been fully released worldwide but one standout feature of the game is its live service component, which allows Blizzard to swiftly address issues like an unfortunate bug that spawned multiple elite enemies, amusingly named the “Darcelpocalpyse”. The focus is firmly set on providing players with a steady flow of substantial content.

Check out our review!

So, in a recent chat with Kinda Funny, Rod Fergusson, the big shot overseeing Diablo, spilt the beans about the game’s early response and dropped a major bombshell—brace yourself for not just one, but two expansions already in the works! Fergusson spilt the tea on Diablo IV’s development approach, revealing that they’re going for the long haul rather than rushing things. You see, Blizzard wants to make sure the game’s creators don’t end up burnt out by the time it hits the market.

Fergusson stressed the importance of a sustainable development process, explaining, “You gotta set up your team and structure in a way that keeps things going because you’re constantly churning stuff out.” And boy, are they churning! He spilt the deets on their current workload, sharing that they’re about to launch the main game, tying up loose ends for season one, cooking up season two, brewing expansion one, and yup, even starting the ball rolling on expansion two—all this before the game’s official release.

Based on Fergusson’s tone and vibe in the interview, it’s safe to say we won’t have to wait for eons for these expansions. He admitted that Diablo III fell short in delivering juicy extra content over time, but fear not! They’re determined to make amends with Diablo IV’s live service approach. Fergusson was hyped about this, saying, “It allows for more content in seasons compared to Diablo III—think deeper, richer, and more content.”

Oh, and get this—Fergusson spilt the beans on a necromancer skeleton situation. They had to do a quick fix on them, nerfing them at first, but they quickly realized they’d gone too far and buffed them back up within a few hours. Talk about fast service, huh?

During the interview, we also learned that the game’s seasons will follow a quarterly schedule. This nifty plan ensures that even casual players have plenty of time to soak up all the content and score some sweet rewards. Fergusson wanted to assure us that any in-game purchases will only affect appearances, like snazzy cosmetic items on the premium battle pass. No need to worry about buying power-ups and all that jazz. Good news, especially considering we’ve already shelled out for the game itself.

Lastly, Fergusson, a self-proclaimed necromancer aficionado, got a tad playful when asked about which class he’d love to see in the future. He slyly dodged the question, refusing to utter the word “paladin.” Oh, the suspense! But wait, there’s more disappointment for hardcore fans—he flat-out rejected the idea of a cow level in Diablo IV. Apparently, it’s too silly for their taste. Well, that alone has some fans labelling it as the worst Diablo ever. No cow level? Bummer.
