Spectre Divide: Shroud’s New Tactical FPS With A Twist

Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, renowned for his prowess in first-person shooters like Counter-Strike and VALORANT, has officially announced his latest venture: a tactical FPS game titled Spectre Divide. Collaborating with Mountaintop Studios, Shroud has been secretly developing this game for the past two years, and fans can finally get a glimpse of what’s to come.

Spectre Divide will be a free-to-play game, offering players the chance to access the playtests and upcoming Closed Beta without any cost. The game will be available on Steam, where eager gamers can add it to their wishlist and request early access.

Currently, Spectre Divide is exclusive to PC, with no announced plans for a console release. This focus suggests the game will remain a PC-only experience for the foreseeable future.

Closed Beta and Stress Test

Before the Closed Beta, Spectre Divide is currently having a “stress test weekend”, starting on 3 August, running from 12:00 PM (PT) to 8:00 PM (PT)—for us Malaysians, that’s 4 August, 3:00 AM (GMT+8) to 11:00 AM (GMT+8). Players can still sign up for the Closed Beta by adding the game to their Steam wishlist and requesting access. Unfortunately, all 10,000 spots from Shroud’s initial link to the stress test weekend have been filled, and no additional opportunities are available at this time. So better luck with the Closed Beta.

Gameplay Mechanics

Spectre Divide is a 3v3 tactical shooter featuring a classic defusal mode. Attackers must plant the bomb at designated sites, while defenders aim to protect or retake these sites to defuse the bomb. A unique feature of the game is the Duality system, which allows players to control two bodies simultaneously. This mechanic enables strategic positioning and the ability to essentially have two lives, adding a fresh twist to traditional tactical gameplay.

If you’ve steered clear of tactical shooters because you dislike being rooted to one spot for precision, there’s good news: Spectre Divide will let you stay on the move while maintaining impressive accuracy.

I genuinely believe this offers a fresh and inventive twist on what has become a rather uninspired genre. As the go-to esports expert, I’m eagerly anticipating the vibrant scene and community that will emerge from this. So I’m definitely going to keep Spectre Divide on my radar.

Stay tuned for more updates on Spectre Divide as it approaches its Closed Beta phase. With Shroud’s expertise and innovative mechanics, this game is poised to make waves in the FPS community.
