Naughty Dog Unveils First New IP In 11 Years
After over a decade of creating masterpieces like The Last of Us, Naughty Dog is finally ready to embark on a fresh adventure—this time in the cosmos. The surprise drop at The Game Awards 2024? Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a retro-futuristic RPG that ditches remakes for bold new territory.
Back in February, news broke that Sony Interactive Entertainment had filed for the trademarks “Intergalactic” and “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”. At the time there were no announcements for games of those names. Well, now we know.
Set 2,000 years from now, Intergalactic introduces players to a semi-open world where exploration is king—think Star Wars Outlaws but with multiple hub areas to navigate, rather than one sprawling map. The plot revolves around a religious cult’s prophecy about an “illuminated” planet, long thought to be mythical. When it’s finally discovered, strange things start happening: communication failures, vanishing explorers, and, well, Solaris vibes.

Players will pilot their very own Porsche-branded spaceship—think sleek sports car, but in space. The soundtrack, by the legendary Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, promises an atmospheric score that’s out of this world. Intergalactic is confirmed for PS5, though details on other platforms and the release date remain under wraps. Development has been underway since 2020, and the trailer teases everything from space exploration to intense combat on alien worlds.
However, the excitement is tempered by some concern. After the cancellation of Concord, many in Twitch and YouTube chats were expressing worry that Intergalactic could fall into the same trap. Fingers crossed, this space odyssey turns out to be worth the hype.
It looks like Naughty Dog’s newest journey is set to be one hell of a ride—hopefully, one that doesn’t crash and burn.
