The Next Mamoru Hosoda Anime Is A Dark Fantasy Title Called Scarlet

The man and production team behind such lovely films like Summer Wars and Belle are at it again with their take on dark fantasy and revenge.

Director Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu have unveiled a new teaser trailer for their next film, Scarlet (full Japanese title Hateshi naki Scarlet/”Scarlet Without Limits”). The 3D-slash-2D animated anime hybrid film is about a strong princess named Scarlet who goes through time and space to enact revenge against her father’s killers, whatever it takes. For each failed attempt, she reverts back to the Land of the Dead and tries again until her vengeance is fulfilled.

Scarlet will be out in Japan on 21 November, and will be out in U.S theaters on 12 December. Odds are, the film will be out in Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, and so forth) in-between those days and will be distributed by Sony Pictures (who handle film distribution outside of Japan).
