New Call Of Duty Is Coming In 2020, Confirms Activision

In their latest earnings call, Activision Blizzard announced that a new Call Of Duty title will be released in 2020. However, for the first time in a while, they have decided to conceal the identity of the developer for now, but it’s possible to make a calculated guess as to whom it might be.

Activision COO Coddy Johnson said (via IGN):

“The franchise has never been better positioned for growth and there’s more to come, including entirely new experiences within the Modern Warfare universe and then of course, in Q4 this year, a new premium Call of Duty release which is already generating excitement in our playtests.”

There are three Call Of Duty studios who take turns developing the annual entries in the long-running FPS franchise, including Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games. Last year’s Call Of Duty Modern Warfare was developed by Infinity Ward while 2018 saw Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 by Treyarch.

Sledgehammer Games’ last title was 2017’s Call Of Duty WW2, which means that it’s likely their turn next on the rotation. However, they also assisted Infinity Ward on last year’s Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, so they might get a pass this year.

If that’s true, then it will probably be Treyarch who will once again be taking the reins for 2020. They have developed all four Black Ops entries, so a new instalment in the same series would be expected unless they decide on doing something new.

In addition, Activision has also confirmed several “remastered” and “reimagined” titles to be announced later in 2020, as well as Diablo Immortal alpha testing in mid-2020 and new content for World of Warcraft Classic. Perhaps one of those titles could be the Crash Bandicoot reboot?

It’s going to be an eventful and ‘active’ year for Activision in 2020, that’s for sure.
