Paradox Announces Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2

After almost two decades (15 years!), one of gaming’s most beloved RPG titles will be receiving an unexpected sequel. Paradox Interactive has announced Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2, a sequel to the 2004 PC classic, Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines.

Unveiled at GDC 2019 via Paradox’s Twitch channel, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 is being developed by Hardsuit Labs, unlike the first game which was developed by Troika Games. However, the upcoming sequel is still very much a first-person RPG, or ‘immersive sim’ similar to that of games like the Deus Ex franchise.

According to the press release (via RPGSite), Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 will feature:

  • A vampire fantasy in a city filled with characters that react to your choices
  • A “forward-driving, fast-moving, melee-focused combat system”
  • Choosing sides between competing factions in “the war for Seattle’s blood trade.”
  • Factions include the “old blood founders present since the city’s birth and the new blood steering the tech money redefining the city”

The game’s lead designer, Brian Mitsoda, said:

“Our aim has been to carry on the signature themes that made Bloodlines unique – particularly its dark tone, atmosphere, and humor – and I think that fans of the original will love what we’re doing with Bloodlines 2.”

Pre-orders for Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 is now open on Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, and the Paradox Store for $59.99. A “Blood Moon Edition” containing the “Season of the Wolf” season pass and additional story content will be released post-launch and is now also available for pre-order at $89.99. However, the game is not yet available to pre-order for consoles.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 is slated to release for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in the first quarter of 2020. In the meantime, check out the announcement trailer for the upcoming game below.
