Mortal Monday: The Best Mortal Kombat Moments Throughout History

Best Mortal Kombat Games

There are way too many Mortal Kombat games out there. Which ones are worthy? Let’s deliver our verdict.

Mortal Kombat 2

Mortal Kombat 1 may be revolutionary, but it doesn’t hold up as a game. MK2, on the other hand, has the distinction of achieving both accomplishments. It was a major improvement controls and fighting-wise, featured a good diverse cast, and has memorable stages and music. Oh, and it introduced us to one of the most badass bosses in gaming history: Shao Kahn.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

Mortal Kombat 3 was fun and all, but it was missing some key characters, balanced gameplay, and tighter controls. Enter Ultimate MK3, where old-school Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and a slew of other fan favourites like Kitana and Mileena. Some OP characters like new Sub-Zero and Kabal are nerfed, while the overall combat feels more updated than before.

True, it’s following the Super SF2 Turbo formula, but this is during a time when DLC wasn’t a thing. We’ll take what we can get.

Mortal Kombat 9/Mortal Kombat (2012)

2D fighting games made a comeback thanks to Street Fighter IV, so it’s only natural that its Western fun-filled rival returns in the best way possible. With fast gameplay, a bunch of “new” mechanics like meter burning and combo breaks, and a new way of doing story mode in fighting games, this rebirth of a phoenix help put NetherRealms on the map and inspired them to create future fighters like the Injustice series.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

A criminally-overlooked action game featuring duo Liu Kang and Kung Lao as they fight their way through the stories and stages of MK1 to MK2.

With a great co-op mode that forces you and your buddy to really co-operate and pay attention, flexible controls for combat, a bunch of vast iconic areas to explore and fight in, and awesome fatalities, this spin-off can’t be beaten.
