Mortal Monday: The Best Mortal Kombat Moments Throughout History

Best Goofy Additions In MK History

Friendships

In an effort to poke fun at American senates trying to lock down video games and censor them, Midway added in special finishers that help sparks joy to an enemy before Marie Kondo got bat**** popular.

Babalities In MK9

What’s even more humiliating than eviscerating your opponent? Turn him into a defenseless baby and see him/her wallow in their helplessness. It’s blitheringly stupid but endearing in some shape and form.

We also appreciate how Cyrax & Sektor cry tears made out of motor oil. Great attention to detail, NetherRealm.

Ermac The Telekinetic Ninja

What started out as an urban legend fabricated by players for MK2 ended up as an actual character idea coming to like in Ultimate MK3. The funny thing about all this is that MK1 and MK2’s plethora of secrets -from Reptile’s cryptic clues to hidden characters like Noob Saibot and Jade- in an era without Reddit and NeoGAF means it’s hard to figure out what’s real and what isn’t, especially if game magazines are sorta in on the gags.

The Mortal Kombat Movie

Whoever thought to make an MK film PG-13 just to get more ticket sales from kids who play video games should get a raise. To be honest, the 90s film is a lot more enjoyable than it has any right to be.

It’s not high art, but it’s chock-filled with martial arts, lovely practical effects, a booty-licious Sonya Blade, and has one of the best techno themes in music pantheon history.

Though the less said about the sequel, the better.

Great line read there, Striperella.
