E3 2019: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Creator To Make A Comedy About MMO Devs

Were you expecting a TV show announcement in Ubisoft’s E3 press conference? Yeah, us either, yet here we are.
Rob McElhenney, known for his directing and acting in the long-running comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will be making a new show called Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. It’s about a bunch of devs who are making an expansion for a successful MMO called Mythic Quest (obviously a fake game), and the turmoils that follow.
Rob will be playing big-headed director Ian Grimm, who has an ego the size of a freight train ever since his MMO is bigger than other titles such as Gothic Kings and DQD4: The Roscoe Chronicles (also fake games). We will expect a lot of jabs at the games industry, narcissism from Grimm’s side, and a lot of cynical-slash-weird humour cocktails if it’s anything like Rob’s previous show.
I’ll have to admit, his over-the-top portrayal of a less-than-humble creative director is arguably spot-on, considering I’ve met a few “center of the universe” archetypes like Grimm during my 10 years in the games industry. Check out the clip here, which also features familiar faces like Danny Pudi from Community & DuckTales.
