Pokémon Sword And Shield Trailer Reveals Version-Exclusive Gym Leaders

The Pokémon Company has released a new trailer for the highly-anticipated Pokémon Sword and Shield, which reveals a bunch of new features. These include version-exclusive gym leaders, a new Gigantamax mechanic, and of course, brand new Gen 8 Pokémon to gawk at.

Version-Exclusive Gym Leaders

There will soon be more of an incentive to get both Pokémon Sword and Shield, as they will feature version-exclusive gym leaders not found in the other game. For example, players will encounter the fighting-type expert Bea in Pokémon Sword, while those in Pokémon Shield will have to face the ghost-type expert Allister instead.

This means that there will now be some actual variety in two Pokémon titles belonging to the same generation.

Gigantamax Mechanic

We’ve already been exposed to the Dynamax mechanic but it seems that there’s going to be an even more powerful version in Pokémon Sword and Shield. The Gigantamax allows Pokémon to not only become bigger (like Dynamax) but also change their appearance.

It also boosts their power (like Dynamax), with the added advantage of being able to use a unique move known as a G-Max Move, which is unique to each Pokémon. Unlike Dynamax, Gigantamax is limited to certain species of Pokémon, and even amongst those species, only rare specimens will be able to use Gigantamax.

We still have no idea what that really means, but for now, we know two Pokémon capable of Gigantamax: Drednaw and Corviknight.
