The Official PUBG Backstory Makes No Sense

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) may have not been the beginning of the battle royale craze but it definitely propelled it to its current phenomenal status. The game’s fourth season is coming later this month and a new cinematic trailer has been released. If you ever wondered why a hundred people would parachute onto an island to kill each other, prepare to continue wondering.

The trailer basically depicts a boy who was the “first lone survivor” of Erangel (PUBG’s first map). His home was bombed and attacked by an army of some sort and something in him was awakened thanks to this particular tragedy.

This awakening manifests an interesting desire within him. The desire to give others the same awakening he went through. He does this by setting up Erangel as a battlegrounds for people to kill each other in.

That’s right. This is the story of the man behind the battle royale matches of PUBG. The trailer ends with him sitting in front of computer screens showing camera feeds of survivors duking it out on Erangel.

“Welcome to my battlegrounds.”

– Narrator

So how does he find people to join the battle royale? Does he actually have a proper goal besides “I want others to become a survivor like me too”? How does he make money through all this?

Perhaps like the game, the answers for all these questions are still rendering. Watch the trailer here.
