Bloodshot Gets A Bloody First Trailer Featuring Vin Diesel

After teasing its unveiling on Sunday, Sony Pictures and Valiant Entertainment have released the first trailer for their upcoming Bloodshot movie starring Vin Diesel as the titular superhero, adapted from Valiant Comics character of the same name.

The official description reads:

Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation.

With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he’s an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly.

But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too.

Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – but he’s on a mission to find out.

That premise sounds very similar to the comic book version, as Ray Garrison is similar to Marvel’s Wolverine in that both have amnesia of some sort (can’t remember their past) and the ability heal from anything almost instantly. His origin is also essentially identical to Robocop, as both ‘died’ while they were human and were brought back to life using bleeding-edge technology.

The Bloodshot movie was initially intended to kickstart a new Valiant Cinematic Universe. However, another movie based on Valiant Comics, Harbinger, is now reportedly slated to be produced and distributed by Paramount Pictures instead, which translates to complications for the shared universe plans.

At the time of writing, it remains unclear which studio holds the rights to which Valiant Comics properties. There are still other popular characters like X-O Manowar, Ninjak, and The Eternal Warrior (to mention a few), who are ripe for adaptation.

Valiant Universe

Look at how many Valiant Comics characters there are.

Valiant Entertainment recently rebooted the Valiant Comics universe in 2012, and they have been publishing hit after hit ever since. From personal experience, I can definitely say that the Valiant universe is just as big and expansive as Marvel’s or DC Comics’, with a lot of untapped potential waiting to be.

The Bloodshot movie will be directed by Dave Wilson in his feature film directorial debut, with a script by Eric Heisserer (who wrote 2016’s Arrival) and Jeff Wadlow (who directed Kick-Ass 2). Besides Vin Diesel as Ray Garrison AKA Bloodshot, it also stars Guy Pearce, Eiza Gonzalez, Toby Kebbell amongst others.

Bloodshot is slated to release on 21 February 2020. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
