Remembering René Auberjonois, A Prominent Video Game Voice
This week, we have lost a legend in TV and video games: René Auberjonois. He passed away at age 79 in Los Angeles due to metastatic lung cancer.
He is most well-known as Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as well as Paul Lewiston in Boston Legal. Oh and also as the crab-killing Chef Louis in The Little Mermaid.Â
But most importantly, he’s also done some epic voice work in video games. Here are his most noteworthy roles:
René basically played the most important role in the Legacy of Kain series: the first noble vampire Janos Audron. His voice work here exudes a high level of nobility and pride, but with a tinge of sadness since the character is the last of his pure vampiric kind.
The self-styled CEO of the New Vegas Strip in the Mojave Wasteland needed a charismatic, cocksure, and stern personality to bring him to life. René was obviously the man for the job. You’ll love Mr. House for his pragmatism and ideals, as well as hate him for his disdain for the people beneath him.
You will be missed, René. Thank you for making these characters incredibly memorable.
