Awesome Games Done Quick 2020 Raised More Than US$3 Million In A Week

If you thought esports was a niche thing in the gaming community, wait until you explore speedrunning. It’s basically the act of finishing a video game as fast as possible. Sometimes, extra parameters are added to spice things up like playing the game blind-folded.
Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) is an annual speedrunning marathon hosted by Games Done Quick (GDQ). What makes GDQ events special is that they’re always raising money for charities through donations by viewers on Twitch.
This year, AGDQ managed to raise US$3.13 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. That’s the highest GDQ has ever raised ever since it first started in 2010. It beat Summer Game’s Done Quick 2019’s record of US$3 million for Doctors Without Borders.
Since it’s called Awesome Games Done Quick, the week-long 2020 marathon had games such as The Outer Worlds, DOOM, Bayonetta 2, Devil May Cry 5, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and lots more.
AGDQ 2020 was hosted at DoubleTree Hilton in Orlando, Florida. It went from 5 January to 12 January 2020. More than 130 games were played during the marathon. You can watch each speedrun on the GDQ Twitch channel or even their YouTube channel.
At the end of AGDQ 2020, the date and location for Summer Games Done Quick 2020 was announced. It will be held in Bloomington, Miinnesota from 21 June to 28 June 2020. Here’s hoping they manage to keep on breaking record and make the world a better place through gaming.
