There Won’t Be A Second Season Of The Watchmen TV Series
The recent Watchmen TV series was received positively by a number of folks because of its politically relevant drama about race and the criminal justice system. Just don’t expect a follow-up to the HBO limited series though.
HBO programming chief Casey Bloys told USA Today that showrunner Damon Lindelof will not be doing a second season of the show because he wasn’t interested in doing so.
“It’s really in Damon’s thinking about what he wants to do. If there’s an idea that excited him about another season, another installment, maybe like a ‘Fargo,’ ‘True Detective’ (anthology) take on it, or if he wants to do something different altogether. We’re very proud of ‘Watchmen,’ but what I’m most interested in what Damon wants to do.
It would be hard to imagine doing it without Damon involved in some way.”
Lindelof said that he already has told the story he wanted to tell, though he has given his blessing to HBO to pursue a new instalment with another writer-slash-producer.
The Watchmen track record so far has been one movie adaptation, prequel comic books, and a crossover to clean up the DC Comics Universe’s messy timeline once again. Depending on whether there’s bank to be made from HBO’s perspective, never say never.
