Overwatch & Diablo Animated Series Are In Development
By Alleef Ashaari|February 17, 2020|0 Comment
The Diablo and Overwatch franchises are both reportedly getting an animated series. However, they will be in different styles. The one based on Diablo will be an anime-style show for Netflix, similar to the popular Netflix’s Castlevania anime.
Video games #Diablo and #Overwatch will both have animated TV series based on them, according to Activision Blizzard Studios Co-President Nick van Dyk. The Diablo series will feature on Netflix, he added. @ATVI_AB pic.twitter.com/DXw0FptkI2

This is all according to the LinkedIn profile of Activision Blizzard Studios co-president Nick van Dyk. It’s important that I point out that he previously served as a producer for the Netflix original animated series Skylanders Academy, which featured famous video game characters like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot.
The Diablo anime is said to currently be in pre-production and it will release worldwide exclusively via Netflix. However, that also means it will probably take quite a while before it eventually releases.
Van Dyk also mentioned that he and his creative partner have “developed and sold an animated series based on Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise”. However, the series has not been officially announced, and it’s still not clear who it has been sold to. It’s probably not Netflix since that was previously mentioned differently.
At the time of writing, Activision Blizzard has yet to confirm or deny the reports of the Overwatch and Diablo animated series. On the gaming side, Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 are currently in active development, having been announced at Blizzcon 2019.
