Parasite Makes History & Wins Big At The Liveliest Oscars In Years
That’s a wrap on the 92nd Academy Awards. Thanks to a stellar lineup of films, brilliant presenters and an overall lively atmosphere all around, this Oscars 2020 turned out to be the best one in years.
Bong Joon-Ho and his movie Parasite made history by being the first South Korean director to win Best Director at the Oscars, and the first foreign film to ever win Best Picture in the history of the Academy Awards.
Parasite was undoubtedly the biggest winner of the night, grabbing a whopping four (4) awards; Best Director, Best International Feature Film, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture.
Joaquin Phoenix deservedly won Best Actor In A Leading Role for his performance in Joker, ending his acceptance speech with a line from his late brother, River Phoenix:
“Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow.”
Other highlights include performances by Eminem performing Lose Yourself after refusing to do so at the Oscars over 18 years ago (which earned him a standing ovation), Idina Menzel (and a group of international Elsas) and Grammy Award-winning singer Billie Eilish belting out a touching rendition of Beatles’ From Yesterday in remembrance of deceased industry legends.
