The Witcher Gets Bigger In Season 2, Adds Game Of Thrones Alum

Netflix has announced seven new cast additions for the upcoming second season of The Witcher, as production is set to begin. Joining Henry Cavill’s Geralt Of Rivia, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer, Freya Allan’s Ciri and Joey Batey’s Jaskier include many names, one of which would be familiar to Game Of Thrones fans.

The new cast members (via Deadline) include:

  • Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) as Nivellen
  • Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) as Lambert
  • Yasen Atour (Young Wallender) as Coen
  • Thue Ersted Rasmussen (Fast and Furious 9) as Eskel
  • Agnes Bjorn as Vereena
  • Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl) as Lydia
  • Mecia Simson as Francesca

It’s worth pointing out that the characters Lambert, Eskel and Coen mentioned above are Witchers like Geralt. Both Lambert and Eskel are from the same School Of The Wolf as Geralt, as all three of them were trained at Kaer Morhen as children. However, Coen is from the School Of The Griffin, a foreign Witcher from a different place.

It will be interesting to see Netflix’s The Witcher delve deeper into the series’ mythology by involving other characters who are themselves Witchers like Geralt. However, it’s slightly disappointing to see Mark Hamill is still nowhere to be seen. Who will eventually play Vesemir, I wonder?

Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich previously confirmed that The Witcher Season 2 will be more linear in nature, which is a departure from the confusing time-jumping narrative of the first season.

The Witcher Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2021. In the meantime, check out my review of The Witcher Season 1 here, or head on over here for all the easter eggs and references discovered in the first season.
