Riot Announces Official Valorant Esports League For Your High-Level Shooter Needs

Good news: we may be seeing some high-level Valorant play sooner than you think.

Riot Games, the folks behind Valorant, has unveiled its big esports plans for the multiplayer team-based shooter. Starting next week, the company’s first-ever Ignition Series will happen in the upcoming G2 Esports Valorant Invitational and Rage Valorant Japan Invitational. Both of them are held on 19th June 2020.

The Ignition Series is basically the Overwatch League but for Valorant; official events happening all over the world featuring the best teams in the region. We’ll break down the events:

G2 Esports Valorant Invitational

For this G2 Invitational, eight teams from Europe, Middle East, and Africa will be competing for a US$16,883 prize.

These teams will be split by region, and the respective captains will only know who will be playing in the tournament a day before the tournament. The tournament will last until 21st June.

You can tune into the tournament later on 19th June via this Twitch link.

Rage Invitational

16 teams will be playing for a US$4,644 prize pool. These include folks like DetonatioN Gaming and Jupiter, whom you may remember from past Overwatch and CS:GO tournaments in Asia.

This tournament will also last from 19th to 21st June. There’s no link to the stream yet, but we’ll be sure to update it when it pops up later on the 18th.

With these tourneys being the first for the game, it’ll be interesting to see which team(s) will draw first blood in the esports hall of fame. We do hope that with this happening, we’ll eventually see the Southeast Asian equivalent of this, especially since there’s a Riot Games branch or two in the region.
