LoL Worlds 2020 To Feature Same Unreal Engine Tech From The Mandalorian

The Worlds 2020 Media Preview Event live stream took place on YouTube earlier today, and they revealed an interesting detail about a new piece of technology that will be applied at this year’s event.

According to Riot Games Head Of Global Esports Communications David Higdon, the League Of Legends Worlds 2020 event will use the same AR and VR mixed reality tech from previous years.

This year’s event will utilize over 40 technicians and artists from Possible Productions, who helped bring the MTV VMAs, Super Bowl Half-Time Shows and even the Worlds 2018 to life.

However, for the first time ever, Worlds 2020 will also use a new version of the Unreal Engine technology made by special effects company Lux Machina, who is best known for producing the incredible visual effects in Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian TV series.

Higdon said:

“The major difference is that the Worlds (2020) will be the first-ever live multi-camera production using this technology.

It’s the most advanced mixed reality hardware system in the world and it will render in real-time at 32K resolution and 60 frames per second.

I’ve had a sneak peek and it’s mind-blowing.”

The 2020 League of Legends Worlds Championship is slated to begin on 25 September 2020 and end with the grand finals on 31 October 2020 in Shanghai, China. In the meantime, check out the awesome animated trailer below:
