When it comes to racing games that balance both the driving sim and actual fun of careening off the highway and beyond, you can’t go wrong with Playground Games’ current-gen offering. Forza Horizon 3 builds atop previous Forza Motorsports and Forza Horizon titles and just made everything better and more remarkable.
Everything you wanted from a racing game, from the realistic aspect (via tweaking driving options & manual/auto controls) to just partaking in random races and endurance trials not alike the Burnout Paradise and Crazy Taxi school of design, is all in here and makes other racing games obsolete. Except for Forza Horizon 4, because part 3 is already discontinued in favour of the newer entry, but you get the idea.
The Great Australian Outback setting and courses, the sublime presentation & musical choices, and the collection of cars you get to amass and tweak also help. No buts about it; Forza Horizon 3 (or alternatively Forza Horizon 4 ) is as good as racing games can get in mixing a driving simulator with an actually fun open-world premise. The ultimate road trip of this console generation, if we’re being frank.
