Fraymakers Is An Upcoming Smash Bros. Clone Featuring Indie Characters

If you ever wondered who would win in a fight between Octodad and the Downwell guy, the folks at McLeodGaming has got you covered.

The team will be making a Super Smash Bros.-like 2D fighting game called Fraymakers. Billed as an infinitely replayable indie platform fighter, the upcoming Kickstarter-funded game will feature beautiful hand-animated characters from different indie titles, detailed stages of their world, and a massive selection of assists for players to use while in combat.

Unlike its source of inspiration, the game will have rollback netcode implemented for smooth online multiplayer experiences. Furthermore, the game comes equipped with FrayTools, a custom toolset that lets you build core content for the game itself. Meaning you can build your own characters, assists, stages, menus, modes, and more.

The roster so far includes:

  •  Welltaro (Downwell): a uniquely vertical character who uses a variety of spikes and downward-aimed projectiles to wrack up heavy damage!
  •  Orcane (Rivals of Aether): a trickster who uses a variety of synergistic water-based powers to control the stage and keep his opponents guessing!
  •  Ultra Fishbunjin 3000 (Slap City): a bulky heavy who’s capable of dishing out absolutely obscene damage in fewer hits than anyone else around!
  •  The Watcher (Slay the Spire): a stance-based character that alters her own physics with her unique Calm, Wrath, and Divinity stances!
  •  Octodad (Octodad series): a tactical character who takes advantage of the unique motions and long reach that are made possible by his stretchy, flexible limbs!
  •  CommanderVideo (BIT.TRIP series): a fast, aggressive character that dishes out a high-speed sliding offense to overwhelm his foes!

At this point in time, the Kickstarter is at US$110,000 with 2,449 backers behind the project; that is way beyond the intended US$44,000 goal they set out. The Kickstarter has 23 days to go to amass more of its funds; go fund it if you want to see this 2D fighting game become a reality.
