The Borderlands Movie Now Has Kevin Hart In A Major Role
The Borderlands franchise is getting a movie adaptation that will be directed by Eli Roth of Hostel fame and also stars Cate Blanchett as the Siren Lilith a.k.a “Watch out, the lava’s rising!”. If that isn’t a reason for celebration/worrying, then there’s another piece of news that might escalate that: they’re going to bring comedian Kevin Hart into the mix.
He recently made it official (via Hollywood Reporter) that he will be starring in the Lionsgate’s adaptation of the game. Who will he be playing? Why, none other than the game’s legendary vault hunter and would-be Crimson Raiders leader Roland (in part 1 anyway). Because when I think badass leader of the Vault Hunters in parts 1 and 2, I think of a super-pandering-as-hell black comedian.
To be fair, a lot of folks didn’t think Chris Pratt could pull off an awesome Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy until he was on-screen with his new physique. So maybe this could be the same type of casting for the Borderlands film: the act of turning a known comedian into a serious actor. Also, the Borderlands 1 VO for Roland does not sound as gruff as it should. Maybe the execs over at Lionsgate heard this instead of Borderlands 2’s Roland and went “this sounds like a Kevin Hart kind of role”?
Here are some quotes about the casting from director Eli Roth and Lionsgate president Nathan Kahane:
“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin. Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland.”
“Kevin has been behind some of the world’s biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world’s best-selling video games. We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story, and we couldn’t be in better creative hands.”
Right now, everyone’s still playing Borderlands 3 while crapping over its main story campaign. The DLC plots? They’re cool. If you want to know the best guns from part 3, head here to our incredibly useful Legendary weapons tier list.Â
