When he’s not busy making the DC Universe all doom-like and gloomy, he’s also finding time to make a zombie movie featuring his patented film-editing techniques.

That’s right: Zack Snyder is revisiting his horror roots in the upcoming zombie movie Army of the Dead, which unfortunately isn’t a remake of Army of Darkness. Still, it looks promising; remember how fun his Dawn of the Dead remake was?

This Netflix exclusive is about a group of mercenaries who venture into the zombie quarantine zone of Las Vegas to pull off an epic heist. Basically, expect blood, gore, and the undead. The film stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Tig Notaro, and high colour saturation. That last one’s pretty significant.

I’m getting a lot of Dead Rising 2 vibes here, except this show will probably feature slightly less comedy and camp. Who knew that a post-apocalyptic zombie-filled movie features a way more vibrant look than a DC comic book movie? 2021 is still surprising us with left-field turns like these.

Army of the Dead will be out 21st May.
