Mortal Kombat (2021)’s Sub-Zero Will Be Signed On For Four More Movies

Despite what we thought of the 2021 reboot of Mortal Kombat, one thing is constant: Joe Taslim was made for the chilling role of Sub-Zero.

He gets a ton of polarizing reactions from his family, friends, and fans according to a Variety interview.

“Everybody got surprised because they said, ‘Oh my God, you’re so evil onscreen. And look at you. In reality, you’re so funny. verybody was like, ‘This is the first time that I want you to die. You’re a nice guy, and I don’t want anything to happen to you, but on the screen, when I watch you, I want you to die. You’re just so vicious.

Well, that’s the role. There’s nothing I can do, right? If you feel that way, then it means it’s good.”

He’s so good that Warner Bros. has already signed him on for four more Mortal Kombat films, assuming the production house and studio decides to move forward with the franchise. With the film doing gangbusters in the US, taking in US$22.5 million from 3,000 venues, the future is looking bright and bloody for the R-rated fighting game series and its live-action adaptations.

Some spoiler-filled casting takes, by the by.

The question is: who will Joe Taslim play after the events of the MK films? After all, Bi-Han met his end at the hands of Scorpion at the end of the 2021 reboot.

Well, Warner Bros. can just create a Sub-Zero-focused origin story ala that PS1 spin-off game Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, possibly introducing characters that made the Lin Kuei ninja become what he is like Quan Chi and Shinnok. Or they could have him appear as a flashback kharacter for the new Sub-Zero; Bi-Han’s brother Kuai Liang. They can save casting money and just make Kuai Liang his twin brother.

Better yet, they may cast Joe Taslim as the undead version of Bi-Han: Noob Saibot. The possibilities are endless especially when given four new films to work with.
