Xbox & Cloud Bring In Strong Growth For Microsoft

Microsoft has posted its financial report for the third quarter of 2021 today, reporting revenue of US$41.7 billion and a net income of US$15.5 billion. According to the report, Microsoft’s revenue is up by a whopping 19 percent, and net income has increased by 44 percent.

The company is seeing especially strong growth for Xbox and cloud-related services. The PC market is also still growing, despite the ongoing global chip shortage. This can be reflected as Windows OEM revenue has grown by 10 percent while Windows non-pro OEM revenue also grew 44 percent, and only Windows OEM Pro revenue has declined by two percent.

In addition, Microsoft’s CEO also revealed that there are now over 1.3 billion active Windows 10 devices worldwide. This is the second quarter of sales of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. Impressively, hardware revenue has grown by an incredible 232 percent thanks to the launch of these next-gen consoles.

Xbox content and services revenue has also increased US$739 million (34 percent) compared to the same quarter last year. This has been primarily driven by third-party titles, Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, and first-party games. It’s thanks to Xbox hardware, content and services that Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue is up by a massive US$1.2 billion (50 percent) after reaching US$5 billion for the first quarter ever last quarter.

In the last quarter, Xbox Game Pass subscribers surpassed 18 million. However, the latest numbers were not revealed. This is good news for the company, as the Xbox Game Pass can only continue to grow. There are so many great games being offered, so head on over here to check out our list of best games to play on the Xbox Game Pass service.
