Sonic The Hedgehog Is Getting His Own LEGO Set On New Year’s

2022 looks like it’s going to be a big year for Sonic The Hedgehog and Sega. Not only will the blue blur be getting a new live-action movie, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, and a brand new current-gen game, Sonic Frontiers, he will also finally be getting his very own LEGO set.

The LEGO Group and Sega announced Tuesday that the LEGO Ideas Sonic The Hedgehog Green Hill Zone Set will launch on 1 January 2022 for US$69.99.

The LEGO Ideas Sonic The Hedgehog Green Hill Zone Set will recreate the look and feel of the original Sonic The Hedgehog’s opening level, complete with grassy green hills, checkered terrain, and a loop. The 1,125-piece set includes five mini-figures (Sonic The Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman, Moto Bug, Crabmeat, and Phantom Ruby) and an interactive Technic lever to launch Sonic (or his enemies) into the air. Power-ups, including golden rings, Super Speed, and shield boxes, are also included, as well as the Chaos Emeralds.

Sonic’s new LEGO set was created as part of the LEGO Ideas program, in which fans and amateur builders can submit their own design ideas for new LEGO sets. The LEGO Ideas Sonic The Hedgehog Green Hill Zone Set was submitted by Viv Grannell, whose Ideas submission was confirmed to go into production in February 2021.

However, this won’t be the first time that Sonic will receive the LEGO treatment. He also had a LEGO set back in 2016 as part of LEGO Dimensions.

The LEGO Ideas Sonic The Hedgehog Green Hill Zone Set will be available both in person at LEGO stores and at LEGO’s official website for US$69.99 starting from 1 January 2022.

In Sonic The Hedgehog 2, after settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 stars James Marsden, Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Jim Carrey returning, alongside new additions Shemar Moore, with Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as the voice of Tails.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 premieres in cinemas on 28 April 2022. In the meantime, check out the trailer below:
