It’s rare to get an original JRPG these days. Sometimes they get buried under the Final Fantasies, Dragon Quests or Tales games out there, but some of them are still worthy enough to be some of the best in the genre. Scarlet Nexus comes from Bandai Namco, but it’s based on an original IP. Despite featuring many of the same tired anime tropes of the genre, the game manages to stand out thanks to its exhilarating and exciting combat.
The fast-paced real-time combat in Scarlet Nexus is fun, especially with the game’s psychokinesis powers that allow you to pummel enemies by throwing objects at them. You’re basically Jean Grey of the X-Men if you want to be. The story also comes with some unexpected twists and turns, especially from both sides of the story involving our psychokinesis-powered heroes Yuito and Kasane.
If you’re looking for a brand new JRPG with no brand baggage or name recognition, you should check out Scarlet Nexus.
