PlayStation Plus Subscribers Claim Alleged Unfair Prices For New Plans

The new PlayStation Plus plans are now live in selected countries in Asia, including Malaysia. However, some players have allegedly claimed that the prices to upgrade to the new Extra or Deluxe plans are unfair (via Nibel).

Those who previously bought multiple stacks of PlayStation Plus subscriptions at a discounted rate have claimed that they apparently have to pay extra in order to upgrade to the Extra or Deluxe tiers. Sony has since disabled the ability to stack subscriptions since April 2022.

Those who previously bought multiple stacks of PlayStation Plus subscriptions also claim that in order to upgrade to the Extra or Deluxe tiers, they have to pay for the entire duration of their current plan. What this means is that if they have subscriptions stacked for years, you can imagine how expensive that’s going to be.

It’s currently unclear how true all of this is, and some on Reddit have tried to figure out the complex way that subscription tier upgrades are calculated.

According to the PlayStation official website, a statement on the matter at hand reads:

“When the new PlayStation Plus membership plans launch, you will be able to upgrade to a plan with more features and benefits. When you upgrade you will be charged a pro-rated fee to level up the remaining time on your existing membership to the desired level.

For example, if you purchased a 12-month membership five months ago and have seven months left, you will need to pay a pro-rated upgrade fee to upgrade your remaining seven months to the desired plan level. Then on your next payment date, you will be charged for the standard price of the membership plan level that you upgraded to at your current payment frequency.”

We’re confused too, but perhaps all of this will be cleared in the coming weeks as the new PlayStation Plus plans start rolling out to the rest of the world. For more details and information on what the new PlayStation Plus upgrade tiers offer, head on over here.
