Captain America 4 Has A Director; Anthony Mackie To Reprise Sam Wilson/Captain America Role
It’s official: the next Captain America film has its director.
The upcoming Captain America 4 film (pending title) will be directed by Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah, known for his work on The Cloverfield Paradox. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson. But he won’t be The Falcon. Furthermore, it’s unclear if Chris Evans would reprise his role as Steve Rogers, seeing that after the events of Avengers: Endgame, he’s probably gone. We’ll probably see flashbacks between him and Sam Wilson, assuming he’s coming back.

But wait: isn’t Sam Wilson already the new Captain America in the Falcon & Winter Soldier TV series on Disney+? Did The Hollywood Reporter cover that TV series, knowing that it’s MCU canon? In any case, this prompted a response from Captain America Steve Rogers’ actor Chris Evans, who said that Sam Wilson is Captain America.

In any case, the MCU train is still a-rolling with its Phase 4 plans. With certain heroes already gone, there need to be replacements carrying the legacy. Sam Wilson as the literal high-flying Captain America would fit the bill. For more MCU goodness, do check out our Thor: Love and Thunder review & post-movie breakdown.
