Overwatch 2’s Mercy Has Been Fixed
By Lewis Larcombe|July 12, 2022|0 Comment
Overwatch players finally have one less thing to complain about with the most recent Overwatch 2 patch release.
For the few of you that may not have heard the whining and wingeing of the Overwatch community, Overwatch 2’s Mercy has had a bit of a bug surround her super jump dubbed “Mercy Tech”.
Now as an Overwatch player myself, I can understand why players were up in arms about this broken mechanic. Given the fact that her verticality already makes her difficult to hit alongside her small hitbox, being able to ascend and descend constantly makes it’s extremely frustrating to eliminate her. Finally after a month of the mechanic coming into fruition, the devs have finally fixed it so that Mercy doesn’t get repelled vertically into the air.
As for other changes included in this new patch, Moira has had her damage orb changed and renamed. Previously known as “Necrotic Orb”, the reworked Enfeebling Orb while still a damage dealing projectile, is now a straight moving projectile that explodes in a three metre radius on impact of an enemy or environment. The orb deals 40 impact damage and 10 explosion damage as well as applying a “weakened” effect if the orb hits a target that reduces damage output by 75% for four seconds.
Furthermore, Moira’s Biotic Orb now has it’s own cooldown separate from the Enfeebling Orb. Moira also saw some changes to some of her ability durations with her self-healing decreased from 24 to 20 and her Fade increasing from 6 to 7 seconds. Check out the full patch notes after the video below.
The previous iteration of Guardian Angel led to less control for the player overall, often launching Mercy into danger or out of Resurrect range. This version keeps player intent at the forefront while still allowing for vertical mobility without sacrificing control input simplicity.
Moira’s strengths lie in her extreme survivability, high healing throughput, and consistent damage output, but other supports have at least one utility option or play-making ability. To remedy this, Biotic Orb has been split into two abilities on separate cooldowns: Biotic Orb and Necrotic Orb. Due to Necrotic Orb’s potential to shut down many Ultimates and heavily swing duels in her favor, Moira has also received some compensation nerfs to her overall power.
