Capcom Teams Up With Tencent For New Monster Hunter Game

Capcom will be bringing Monster Hunter to mobile, which could mean the end of productivity as we know it.

Capcom will be teaming up with Tencent’s Timi studio to create a new game in the monster-killing franchise for mobile devices. The in-development title will reproduce the hunting action that defined the series while offering players a new game experience unique to the platform(s).

I have no doubt in my mind that Capcom can make a fun and compact Monster Hunter experience on Android and iOS devices with touchscreen controls. JRPGs and action RPGs have proven to work on mobile for the past 5+ years, so gameplay’s not going to be an issue. What could be an issue is how microtransactions will work, and whether there will be any pay-to-win shenanigans involved.

With developer Timi on board, whose experience involve MOBA games Honor of Kings/Arena of Valor and Pokemon Unite which are popular in their own circles (and getting US$10 billion out of them to boot), this may be Capcom’s meal ticket for the next few years whether we like it or not.
