Square Enix Allowed This Famous Wrestler To Use This Famous Final Fantasy Boss Theme For His Entrance
Professional wrestler Kenny Omega (All-Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling) is no stranger to video games, as he has talked with folks in Giant Bomb about his top game picks of the year with wrestler pal Xavier Woods. He’s also known for loving the Final Fantasy franchise, with him naming one of his finishers after Sephiroth’s infamous boss battle theme, the One Winged Angel slam.
So in the now-showing Wrestle Kingdom 17 pay-per-view wrestling event hosted by New Japan Pro-Wrestling, he made quite a splash with his entrance just before his match against rival Will Ospreay. And what a showing: he used Nobuo Uematsu’s One-Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII (the Remake version, I believe), and even extended his left arm to have the iconic black wing pop out on the “Titantron” screen. It must have been tough for him and NJPW to secure permission to play the song in a public wrestling event, but Square Enix is not one to shy away from any form of publicity.
Check out the magic below.
