League Of Legends & Milio’s Design: Smol, Cute, And Bratty

Here’s a little insight on our adorable new champion in League of Legends, Milio.

Milio is of the very few champions that’s being released as a pre-teen. Now on top of creating a well, literal child, the Champions team wanted to bring an entirely new dimension of representation into Milio’s character.  We were told in a press conference, that the major goal was to not just create the first male enchanter support, but to also bring in more Latino representation to League.

Unlike his other support pyros, Annie and Brand, Milio’s pyro skills were designed to be a soft flame. His spells look more warm and cozy instead of the harsh and aggressive playstyle we see from other pyros. Milio’s smol fuemigos are round and bouncy, with a soft glow.

It was important for Milio to be made smol and cute. The design team worked hard to make sure his youthful energy was portrayed in his kit. Hence, the spell names like Cozy Campfire and fast-paced excitement in his playstyle.

“One: he’s high energy. I wanted to try to make it feel like there’s a lot of movement and a lot of excitement in his actions. But two is making him feel kind of annoying like a bratty younger brother to some degree. The way that he ends up interacting with you in lane is that he’s not going to outright kill you, but he’ll keep annoying you until you get so fed up that you try and kill him,”

Milio’s Background

Milio grew up in a remote village far away from the capital of Ixaocan, unlike Qiyana who was born sitting at the top of Ixtal’s social hierarchy. He’s known to be optimistic who sees the good in everything and that puts him in a position of someone who can break a cycle of generational trauma deep within his family.

Since Milio is intuitive and well, unwittingly a genius, his grandmother, believes he can become a Yun Tal, which is a master of elemental magic. In succeeding this, he will restore his family’s honour and will become a part of the Ixtal’s ruling court. But first, Milio will have to take a test before a massive magical loom, the Vidalion. According to the lore, if he succeeds, he would unseat Qiyana as the youngest person ever to join the Yun Tal.
