Here Is 15 Minutes Of The Mageseeker: A League Of Legends Story Gameplay

Riot Games is at it again with its plethora of spin-off games based on its long-running franchise League of Legends. If it means more game genres that flesh out the lore while delivering different kinds of gaming thrills like Ruined King, count us in.

The latest in line is The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story. This top-down action RPG from developer Digital Sun puts you in the shoes of Sylas, a formerly-imprisoned mage who now fights for freedom against the mageseeker group that put him there. He ends up joining a rebel army and pursuits justice and vengeance by killing every mageseeker and spellcaster (and also monsters and mutants) in the way. How? By using his chains as melee attacks and his special magic-stealing ability to fling it back at his oppressors.

See, Mageseeker’s main hook is the magic-leeching: Sylas can absorb someone’s magic and use that against enemies. While it doesn’t use up mana, it’s only usable once, so you need to make the shot count. As the game features 6 elements, you’ll have a lot of spells to steal from ranging from the usual fire and ice projectile to even one Mystic spell that buffs up your hit points. Your chains can also deal good damage, and you can grapple onto foes to get close to them for some righteous pounding. You can upgrade your skills and even slot in your own spells, though the latter costs you mana. You can also recruit rebel mages that can passively buff your skills and give you additional attacks like a Mystic-element projectile to an ice ground-pound move that slows enemies down at the point of impact.

We’ve spent 6 hours on the game so far, with a few more in tow before we can get a proper review done. While that’s still a work in progress, why not check out the 15 minutes of action RPG gameplay below and see if the 2D pixel art and combat jive with you?

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story will be out on 18th April for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation.
