Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem For Vengeance Anime Series Announced

Sunrise has announced an upcoming CGI anime returning to the Universal Century timeline, Gundam Requiem For Vengeance. The announcement was made during the ongoing Anime Expo 2023 event, from 1 – 4 July.

This upcoming anime series will consist of six 30-minute episodes each and will be streamed worldwide, with the entire show produced using Unreal Engine 5. The team also unveiled the anime key art and a teaser trailer for fans to see what’s in store. The poster shows Iria Sorari, a female protagonist whose voice and motion capture are both performed by Cecelia Massingham – the star cast of the series.

Erasmus Brosdau (The Lord Inquisitor: Seeds Of Ambition) will be directing the project, alongside Gavin Hignight (Tekken: Bloodline; Gen: Lock; Star Wars Resistance) will be writing the script. Meanwhile, Naohiro Ogata (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury) and Hignight are serving as executive producers. Manuel Augusto and Dischinger Moura are the main character designers, while Kimitoshi Yamane (Cowboy Bebop) is the mechanical design supervisor. Wilbert Roget II (Mortal Kombat 11, Call of Duty: WWII) will be in charge of the music.

Director Erasmus Brosdau shared a video message at the Anime Expo 2023 industry panel, promising that the animated series will “shed some more light onto the One Year War by focusing almost entirely on the Xeon side”. Fans can also experience a new and realistic look of Gundam with the new software used – Unreal Engine 5. No other details were mentioned, however, more future updates will be made in the upcoming months.

According to the trailer’s description, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance will take place during the One Year War, a conflict that was also depicted in the first Gundam series Mobile Suit Gundam. The series continues to follow the themes of conflict and love seen in previous Mobile Suit Gundam titles as well as the human drama depicted by the clash of pilots operating humanoid weapons.

In the meantime, check out the teaser trailer for Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance below.
