New Contra: Operation Galuga Trailer Showcases The Playable Cast

2D run-and-gun title Contra is making a comeback, though whether people want it like this or not is a separate matter entirely.

What matters is that WayForward, the devs behind one of the better Contra games out there -Contra 4 for Nintendo DS back in the Aughts- is developing the upcoming title. And just like classic title Contra: Hard Corp, you have multiple characters to paly as, each with their own skills and powerups. While you start with either Bill Rizer or Lance Bean, more playable characters will be unlocked over time.

Here are the playable characters in the upcoming multiplayer Contra title.

  • Bill Rizer: Field leader of the Contra unit, possessing exceptional physical strength, agility, and mental fortitude. Proficient in all manner of armaments and well-versed in military science.
  • Lance Bean: An expert marksman adept with machinery. Was active as a guerrilla fighter before being recruited into the Earth Marine Corps by Bill Rizer.
  • Ariana: A tremendously skilled warrior from the Galuga Archipelago. After her village was nearly wiped out by Red Falcon’s attack, she wages a one-woman war against the enemy forces.
  • Lucia: Deputy commander in the Earth Marine Corps and also a talented field operative. She is equally proficient at combat missions and covert intelligence.
  • Lt. Stanley Ironside: A veteran who leads an armored platoon in the GX Army. He wears a powered Hercules exosuit to supplement his already formidable combat skills.
  • Probotector: Autonomous training robots used by the Contra Unit. Utilizing cutting-edge tech, they are every bit as capable in the field as their human counterparts.

The game has three modes: Story mode, Arcade mode, and Challenge Mode. The latter will pit you against 30 missions with speedrunning challenges, limited ammo challenges, and more. The mode also offers players the chance to equip up to two Perks which adds buffs and benefits like longer invincibility after respawns, starting out with specific weapons like the Spread Gun, and boosted character abilities.

Contra: Operation Galuga will be out for PC and consoles in early 2024.
