Earlier this month, rumours have been speculating about Xbox exclusives like Starfield and Hi-Fi Rush going multiplatform and coming to non-Xbox/PC platforms. Last week, Xbox head Phil Spencer himself broke the silence and finally gave out a statement online on Twitter, promising that he will announce the “future of Xbox” this week.
In a tweet, Phil Spencer said:
We’re listening and we hear you. We’ve been planning a business update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox. Stay tuned.
Sources have previously claimed that Microsoft will release Starfield for the PS5 after the launch of the upcoming Starfield Shatter Space expansion that’s coming to the Xbox Series X/S and PC. The expansion for the open-world RPG is reportedly slated for release sometime later in 2024. There have been other similar rumours about Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones And The Great Circle, and other games. These also include Microsoft possibly bringing Gears of War to PlayStation (via Jeff Grubb).
If the rumours are true, it will shake up the industry. This decision was reportedly made because the senior leadership at Microsoft have discussed the pros and cons of releasing exclusive games on other platforms to gain maximum profits from potential sales on those other platforms.
