By Alleef Ashaari|March 27, 2024|2 Comments
The third episode of X-Men 97 are now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia. Check out my spoiler-free review of X-Men 97 by heading over here.
Check out my breakdown of X-Men 97 Episode 1 and Episode 2 here.
The synopsis reads:
The upcoming animated series revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. The voice cast includes Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
X-Men The Animated Series originally aired on Fox Kids for 76 episodes across five seasons from 1992 to 1997. The series is currently available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.
Yup, looks like I was right.
Basically, the Jean Grey that married Cyclops and becomes pregnant is actually a clone of Jean Grey, which means that Nathan Summers AKA Cable is actually the son of this Jean Grey clone. The Jean Grey clone would later go by another name, Madelyne Pryor, and she would become the Goblin Queen, a recurring villain for the X-Men.
And just like in the comics, the one responsible for the Jean Grey clone in X-Men 97 is Mister Sinister.
And look at that, she became the Goblin Queen.
It’s funny that Magik makes her debut in the world of the X-Men animated series via Morph. In the comics, Magik is the young sister of Piotr Rasputin AKA Colossus.
And the only way to cure him of the techno-organic virus is to send Nathan Summers into the future, which is how he eventually grows up to become Cable.
In X-Men 97, Bishop brings Nathan Summers to the future.
Just like in the comics.
Forge shows up and offers to help Storm regain her powers. Perhaps Storm will join X-Factor? We’ll have to wait and see.
Until then, excelsior! Enjoy some Rogue in the meantime.
