By Alleef Ashaari|April 17, 2024|0 Comment
The sixth episode of X-Men 97 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia. Check out my spoiler-free review of X-Men 97 by heading over here.
Check out my breakdown of X-Men 97 Episodes 1 and 2, Episode 3, Episode 4 and Episode 5 here.
The synopsis reads:
The upcoming animated series revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. The voice cast includes Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
X-Men The Animated Series originally aired on Fox Kids for 76 episodes across five seasons from 1992 to 1997. The series is currently available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.
The Kree and Shi’ar are two alien races almost always at war in the Marvel universe, and the Kree-Shi’ar War is a backdrop of many iconic stories in the comics.
This is Deathbird, the sister of the Shi’ar empress Lilandra Neramani (who is Professor X’s lover).
If you’ve watched the MCU movies, you’ll know who Ronan The Accuser is.
Even the Shi’ar Imperial Guard makes an appearance, led by Gladiator.
He’s still alive and will marry empress Lilandra Neramani.
In the comics, they even have a daughter together named Xandra Neramani, who is now the current empress of the Shi’ar Empire.
The reason is because Forge is actually Native American. But he rarely uses his mystical powers because he relies more on his more technological-focused mutant abilities.
When everyone kept bickering about him being the new emperor, he pulled everyone into the Astral Plane, including Gladiator (who is basically a Superman analogue in the Marvel universe).
He rarely shows off how powerful he is, so it’s great to see this impressive feat.
And she returns to her original iconic costume design from Giant-Size X-Men (1975).
Gambit appears to him in the Astral Plane, making him aware of the Genoshan Genocide from the previous episode, thus he decides to abandon the Shi’ar Empire and return to Earth.
It seems that in X-Men 97, Mr. Sinister is responsible for the genocide in Genosha.
In the comics, it was Cassandra Nova, Charles Xavier’s twin sister.
There you have it, folks.
Only four episodes left in X-Men 97 Season 1.
Until next week, excelsior!
