Sea Of Thieves Sails Past 40 Million Players On Xbox & PC

The developer Rare recently announced that its pirate-themed multiplayer adventure game, Sea of Thieves, has achieved a remarkable milestone of 40 million players across Xbox consoles and Windows PC. This achievement comes ahead of the launch of Season 12 and the highly anticipated PS5 version of the game.

The announcement was made on Sea of Thieves official website, where executive producer Joe Neate stated:

“40 million players across Xbox, Windows 10 and Steam is an amazing milestone to be able to talk about, and of course it wouldn’t have happened without you – our brilliant, positive and welcoming community, who continue to surprise and impress us with your creativity and antics out on the waves,”

Sea of Thieves was first released on 20 March 2018 for Xbox One and Windows PC through the Microsoft Store. The game was also made available on Day 1 with Xbox Game Pass, making it the first first-party game from Microsoft to be included in the gaming subscription service. The game became the second best-selling game of March 2018 in the United States.

But that’s not all! Season 12 of Sea of Thieves is just around the corner with a plethora of new activities and coincides with the launch of PS5, which could see servers flooded with hundreds of new pirates ready to take to the seas. The upcoming season features two new weapons and three new tools such as a double-barreled flintlock, and throwing knives, whereas the tools are wind caller, scattershot, and bone caller.

The team will not only add new weapons but will also upgrade the old ones like the possibility of balance on Harpoon Lines. Plus, more ziplines are going to appear on the islands around Sea of Thieves. They’ve been carefully placed across the game’s islands where players can make the most of them, offering faster traversal, easier access to ships, and escape routes from skeletons.

Sea of Thieves is out now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PC via Microsoft Windows and Steam, with a planned launch on PS5 on 30 April 2024.
