Rockstar Co-Founder Expected To Develop Open-World Action-Adventure Game

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser’s new transmedia company, Absurd Ventures, is looking into developing a new open-world action-adventure game.

This news comes via a job listing that indicates that the studio is actively recruiting for seven key game development positions, including a lead gameplay designer.

The job listing states that the lead gameplay designer will “become the primary vision holder and hands-on contributor for character, controls, and camera design in an open-world action-adventure game.” This role will lead a team of multi-disciplinary specialists to deliver exceptional combat and third-person action across multiple game modes.

In addition to looking for a lead gameplay designer, Absurd Ventures is looking to fill roles for an art director, lead designer, senior art director, senior producer, senior technical director, and technical director. Dan Houser, who co-founded Rockstar in 1998 and left in early 2020, announced the formation of Absurd Ventures last year. The company’s first two projects are set to launch in 2024: “American Caper,” a graphic novel, and “A Better Paradise,” an audio fiction series.

Recently, it was revealed that Rockstar veterans Lazlow Jones and Michael Unsworth have joined Absurd Ventures. Jones, previously co-chair of Rockstar’s production department, was responsible for in-game creative audio and video content. Unsworth, a former writer for the Red Dead Redemption series, worked on nearly all of Rockstar’s major releases during his 16-year tenure.

Absurd Ventures is poised to make a significant impact in the gaming industry with its ambitious projects and experienced team.
