Motion Twin’s acclaimed roguelike metroidvania game, Dead Cells, has expanded beyond the gaming world with the launch of its animated series, Dead Cells: Immortalis. The premiere episode is now available for free on YouTube.
Since its release in 2018, Dead Cells has sold over ten million copies across PC, consoles, and mobile platforms. It has also grown through various DLCs and a notable crossover with Castlevania.
The new animated series, Dead Cells: Immortalis, features ten short episodes. The series can be streamed on the French platform, Animation Digital Network (ADN). To attract a wider audience, the first episode has been released on YouTube, complete with French voices and English subtitles.
Set on a cursed island plagued by a mysterious infection, the series follows the story of a king who transforms the entire island into demons while seeking a cure. According to a prophecy, a hero with a fiery head is destined to defeat the king. However, this reluctant hero would rather be left alone.
Laure Esposito, a young guardian from the Order of Truth, must persuade this hero to save the kingdom from its impending doom.
As a newcomer to the Dead Cells universe, I found immense joy in this eight-minute gem. Despite my unfamiliarity with the source material, the first episode proved to be effortlessly engaging. I can only speculate that having background knowledge would enhance the experience even further. The art style, while somewhat rough around the edges, perfectly complements the show’s tone. The dialogue—or more accurately, the translation—nailed the snappy and goofy humour they aimed for. The brief duration ensured I remained captivated, leaving no room for my attention to wander to my phone.
Produced by Bobbypills, known for works like Vermin, Peepoodo, and the Ubisoft series Captain Laserhawk on Netflix, Dead Cells: Immortalis brings the beloved game to life with humour and vivid animation.
The first five episodes are currently available on ADN, with new episodes premiering every Wednesday. Each episode is short, around seven to eight minutes long. The debut episode is also available for free on YouTube.
Meanwhile, Dead Cells continues to make its mark in gaming history, having received its latest update while Motion Twin develops new projects, including The Rogue Prince of Persia, which is currently in Early Access.
Stay tuned for more updates on Dead Cells: Immortalis and other exciting releases from Motion Twin.
